*Disclaimer- I own all the pictures. This blog post is not sponsored and I have purchased this box with my own money. Everything said over here is just my opinion.
Today I will be reviewing the December instalment of the Q Box! Yes, February has almost ended and March is right around the corner but its never too late to review content quality!
So, let’s start with the basics!
What is a Subscription Box?
A Subscription Box is a monthly, trimonthly or quarterly planned and distributed box that usually holds a theme based on the genre or category it is from. You can receive Subscription Boxes from different countries depending on the list of countries they ship to. Some of the more common Subscription Boxes you will see on this blog will range from genres like Beauty, Books, Skincare, Kawaii(Cute/Japanese themes), Food, etc. I do plan on widening this range with time and maybe include Anime and Show themed boxes.
Now, a little bit about GetQBox,
What is it? where is it from?
GetQBox or QBox, is a kawaii Subscription Box Service that is located in Canada. They also have options for 1 month, 3 months & 6 months Subscription plans. Their items are Japanese Kawaii(Cute) or Korean items that range from accessories, beauty, plushies, wearables, etc. They have two options for their monthly boxes- QBox or Mini QBox. The QBox usually contains 7-10 full sized products and premium items with a value of over $70, as mentioned on their website. The themes between the two vary based on the characters chosen for the month, respectively. The QBox is $24.95 & The Mini QBox is $13.95.
Word on the street?
From whatever I have gathered from their Facebook page is that they’re very unresponsive and many people don’t receive their boxes after paying for their monthly, trimonthly, or quarterly plans. No refunds have been given to their distraught customers nor have they addressed all these individuals.
I was not quite aware of this problem when I first purchased the box and like any sane worried customer, I quickly emailed and messaged them. As mentioned earlier about the rumours, nobody responded to my emails. Luckily, the box did arrive, albeit after Christmas around the 27th of December. Nonetheless, it still left me with a bit of a sour experience because I honestly lost hopes of ever receiving it.
Based on these, here are my ratings so far
Social Media Activity: 2/10
Customer Service: 1/10
So, let’s get into the product review
The Rilakkuma Plushie
Rilakkuma, which translates to ‘Lazy Bear’ in Japanese, is a character created by Aki Kondo and produced by the San-X Company, Japan. He is a character that is adored by everybody who is familiar with the company San-X through the various merchandise available in the form of plushies, dishware, stationery, backpacks, etc. He is also a very popular character among children!
The plushie I received in the box is a pink coloured Rilakkuma. I have never seen this version of him and considering the way he has been decorated and the materials used, I think this is a counterfeit plush. The face is not symmetrical, this version of a Rilakkuma has never been released by San-X and the labels are printed differently unlike the usual San-X Rilakkuma plushes or products, in general. Nonetheless, the plushie is quite soft and small with a zipper on the back, anyone who is not particular about authenticity will clearly adore this plushie and it bodes well with the cute theme of the subscription box in general.
So, here are my ratings for this product
Defects: Few and noticeable
The Hello Kitty Ankle Socks
Hello Kitty is a character created by Yuko Shimizu and is currently designed by Yuko Yamaguchi and produced by Sanrio, Japan. Hello Kitty is a worldwide sensation because of her cute demeanour and amazing merchandise that can be bought in the form of wearables, accessories, dishware, stationery, etc. She is a Japanese white Bobtail cat with notably no mouth.
The socks I have received are pretty decent except for the fact that they did look a tad bit old with a passable embroidery job done on them. This feature and the fact that the label again, does not go along with how the Sanrio labels are usually designed, suggests that this is, in fact, a counterfeit product. Authenticity aside, the socks are very useful for those who prefer cute wearable items like these!
Defects: Few and noticeable
The Christmas/ New Year Cards
The cards have been made by GMZ, an online Korean site for stationary and similar products. They have a variety of items like these to offer with cute art and illustrations on them. Some of their items are notepads, calendars, cards, etc.
The set I received consists of 10 cards with 9 Christmas cards and 1 New Year’s card. Sadly, the box arrived on the 27th of December and so, it was too late for me to make use of these cards with only the New Year’s card working out in my favour. Though, I didn’t make any use of it. heh. Each of these cards come with their own unique art and cute illustrations along with envelopes that suit the cute theme and are designed to match the occasion.
Decorative Christmas Streamer
Sadly, I couldn’t quite find where this product is from or who made it. Though, if I do find it, I will make an update to this post.
As I mentioned before, the box arrived after Christmas, So most of the Christmassy products went to waste for me. Hence, I wasn’t able to use the streamers either. From what I have gathered and unpacked is, the streamers have loops and need to be manually connected to each other with the rope provided in order to transform them into a Christmas decoration. This product for those who purchased this box and received it on time or at all is a pretty good steal! It’s quite unfortunate that I was not able to make use of it but there’s always Christmas 2018!
The Bentoy Beanie & Sling-bag
As far as I have been able to understand, Bentoy deals with Fashion and Accessories that suit for the more cute or kawaii genre and is based in Korea. I was also able to find this same product online on this website here as for the beanie, sadly, I couldn’t find it online but if I do, there will be a new link update for this post.
The beanie and sling-bag are quite useful in their own ways. Personally, I don’t usually don a beanie or hat and sling-bags are not quite my style but they’re very pretty and cute to see and definitely, a major gain to anyone’s wardrobe!
Quality: Beanie 9/10 & Sling-bag 8/10
Defects: The Sling-bag was a bit smooshed and is not able to take its original shape.
Kawaii-ness: 9/10 for both
Relevance: 7/10 for both
For those interested, here’s how the box arrived that day. It was inside the red wrapping with hearts on it!
The QBox does provide the customers with some decent products but for those who are keen on authenticity, this is more or less a bit of a waste for them. High-end brands and products seem to be mostly counterfeit. Some of the products are of course genuine and quite useful too, but in the end, all-round satisfaction is key. Now, considering the shabby and almost non-existent customer service, I think you should purchase this box on your own risk. Perhaps, instead of directly going for trimonthly or quarterly subscriptions, maybe go for the monthly box and try it out this way first!
