Sugar Cosmetics: Smudge Me Not Matte Liquid Lipsticks Review

*Disclaimer: I own all the pictures. This post is not sponsored. Everything written over here is just my opinion.

Hey, folks!

I’m trying to pick up the pace on how often I make these blog posts and trust me, it’s not as easy as it seems. I have been trying to look for props that I can use for pictures because I know a plain blog post with no pictures gets monotonous sometimes and I, for one, prefer pictures and well, it adds to the fun and creativity aspect of the reviews and posts in general. I don’t use a fancy camera and hence, as you might have noticed before in my previous posts or you will see in this post, the quality of the pictures are not quite top notch. The camera I use is that of my iPhone X and while it is pretty decent, it can’t beat the quality and clarity of a DSLR but I am working on that as well. Baby steps.  Nevertheless, if you have any suggestions for new categories or products you want me to review then I would love to hear you out in the comments below!

What is Sugar Cosmetics?

Sugar Cosmetics is an Indian brand that is based in Mumbai, India. They have a wide variety of products that range from lipsticks, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, bronzer, etc. There are also various combinations of gift boxes available on their website. Their social media handle on Instagram is very active and responsive as well. Their lipstick range is the most impressive with them always adding new shades and introducing new styles as well.

I have always wanted to try out the Sugar Cosmetics mostly because of how attractive the packaging is but also because of the pretty variety of lipstick shades they have. Though I must admit it, for someone who doesn’t really like matte lipsticks, I own a lot of them and here I am with more matte lipsticks. I have purchased three Smudge Me Not Matte Liquid Lipsticks and yes, I tried them all out and boy, my lipsticks were almost burning towards the end of it all, not because of the lipstick being shady but because of the constant wear and tear the process of putting on and taking off the lipsticks caused me. Nonetheless, the shipping was pretty quick and I was quite pleasantly surprised when it arrived in a matter of 2-3 days.

The ratings so far are,

Without further ado, let’s get into the review!

The Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick- Brazen Raisin 01

The lipstick case is of a plastic material with a black lid. All the company details are mentioned on the packaging and also at the bottom of the lipstick as well. As you can see the body of the lipstick case is transparent and we can visibly see the color of the lipstick. There is 4.5ml of liquid within it. Overall, the case is sturdy and can stand a few falls but of course, I don’t suggest that you try that out. This Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick retails for Rs 499. *Me wearing the lipstick and please excuse my messy shirt that’s covered in cat hair. I also realize that using snapchat filters aren’t the best for showing off these lipsticks but I actually wasn’t planning on posting any of these pictures until it struck me while writing the review that just showing the case isn’t enough and well, yeah… my apologies!*

First off, the lipstick is very nice and moist in the beginning when you apply it, so, there is quite a bit of scope for errors that can be corrected in a nick of time if you’re a little clumsy like me when it comes to liquid lipsticks, especially when they’re matte. Once the lipstick is matte, it’s almost painted like, not in a bad chemically way but like one of those matters that really become a part of you. I really liked this shade and I think it would compliment all kinds of skin tones. It’s very defined and definitely serves well with pouty lips! Though, I would suggest that you outline your lips prior to applying the matte lipstick because it has a very strong tendency to stain.

Well, super matte seems to be the general theme of all the Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipsticks. I have to be honest, my lips were still stained with the Brazen Raisin shade and I really tried my best to cover that up. Overall, this shade of orchid is very vibrant and almost serves as a dark neon variant. I think this shade will suit whoever that can pull it off and walk around confidently with it. Lipstick shades like black and dark metallic browns are usually up to my alley and this lipstick is a great addition to my collection. But you need to make sure that it’s evenly applied everywhere before you move on from it or else, you will see a few streaky undertones peeking from underneath the purple shades.

By this time, I was in a bit of pain from the constant rubbing and applying new shades without disrupting my bb cream base and like I mentioned earlier, these lipsticks really stain, so, it can end up in a disaster if you’re not careful enough about it. Now, this is a more nude shade compared to the other ones and I really dig it. I always try to get myself some neutral and nude shades because of how easy it is to pull off a more casual look with them and this lipstick definitely fits the role for it. Well, I don’t know whether this is a shade that will suit everyone because if you’re towards the tanner spectrum then it might be more of a neutral shade but I don’t think there will be an issue as such but doesn’t hurt to be wary when it comes to picking such cosmetics online. One thing that I suggest that you don’t overdo is the number of coats that you will apply on your lips because they might look like burnt or really crispy toast in the end.

pack

This is how the package arrived and within it was a regular box with the Sugar Cosmetics emblem all over it. Simple and efficient.

My Verdict?

I am very pleased with how well everything went and I really recommend trying out this range of their products. There was a continuity in my ratings for the quantity provided because I think the cases are too small and could be a little more bigger. Small cases mean lesser quantity and while I agree that paying 500 bucks is not very expensive, you deserve to get the full worth of the amount you’ve spent on these products. Some of their other products that I plan on exploring are the mascara and eyeshadow palettes and maybe their nail lacquers as well. I would mostly recommend their lipsticks rather than some of the other face products because it has a wider range and variety and well, there’s no such thing as too many lipsticks!
