Hey, folks!

Summer 2019 feels particularly hot but the weather is not the only hot thing around here. Oh, yes, I’m talking about some of the latest new launches on the Nykaa website/app. While there have been new brand launches, something I will make a separate post for, there have been new palettes that have been among the launches. One of the more popular ones being the New Nudes palette by Huda Beauty. The moment I first read about the launch, I need I had to grab one for myself before the real beauty gurus run that place dry. But, this review won’t be limited to just latest launches, it’s a review on basically all of the palettes I have bought off of Nykaa this year. Now, I’m not a huge make-up fanatic but I do enjoy collecting them and occasionally experimenting with my style. If you’re a make-up enthusiast, then, you know that one can never have too many palettes.

What is Nykaa?

Nykaa is an e-commerce platform for men and women with various beauty, fragrances, accessories and fashion needs, with their services ranging from selling products to providing expert advice. Derived from the Sanskrit word “Nayaka” that means actress or one in the spotlight. Nykaa also has its own in-house brand that mainly focuses on cosmetics, bath & body and skincare products. It houses several luxury brands like Bobbi Brown, MAC, Estee Lauder, Dior, etc. Nykaa is the largest beauty destination in India with over half a million customers and has a large number of stores that are spread out throughout the country. They only ship within India.

Word On The Street?

Nykaa is about as popular as it can get in India, men and women alike, are very well aware of this giant, ever-growing brand and platform. This doesn’t exclude Nykaa from criticism, though. While there are many people praising the competence of Nykaa’s services, there are several others, who are constantly questioning it. Most posts of Nykaa on Instagram and Facebook, usually have several people inquiring about missing orders or openly expressing their disdain over unfortunate and disappointing experiences. From missing and delayed deliveries to faulty products and fake items, Nykaa hasn’t been the problem free site it promises to be.

Personally?

I have been using the Nykaa app for quite some time now. It’s also no secret among my friends and family that I spend an awful lot of money buying things from there. Though, despite me being a regular customer, I have had my fair share of problems with Nykaa. Getting a fake product from Nykaa is still something I haven’t experienced for myself and I really hope I won’t ever have to go through it, but, I have received products that were broken, and products that were never delivered to me. The only issue that really bugs me about Nykaa is the customer service, and it’s not just me, but many friends of mine and others, who have had to face issues with rude customer care employees or even, folks who just didn’t know how to help us and would throw us in an endless loop. I really hope that Nykaa improves this and takes note on all the feedback that comes their way regarding such issues. Of course, I still shop from Nykaa and, well, that just goes to say that these issues aren’t a huge danger or even as common for every customer. It always helps to be aware of such possibilities, though.

Let’s get into this!

Huda Beauty- The New Nudes Palette

This all-in-one eyeshadow palette consists of 18 highly pigmented shades, ranging from nude mattes to shimmery hues. Among the eyeshadow, there’s also one concealer in the palette, it acts as a base for your eyeshadow. The shades transition from neutral golden tones to rosy pink tones, inventing the idea and style for the new nude look. It has very nice packaging with a box and the palette within, it does not come with a brush of its own. The palette also has a mirror for its own.

I had always wanted to invest in products from Huda Beauty but I just never felt like I was skilled enough to make such an investment, until earlier this year. This is easily the best and the most expensive eyeshadow palette I have ever purchased. The colors here are not as intimidating as I thought they would be. As rumored, there is a bit of fall out from the matte eyeshadows and the shimmers but, if you’re careful enough, you might save yourself from creating a franken-pink concealer. Even then, this is a wonderful palette and I’m obsessed with this pearl eyeshadow shade called Crave, it looks like the eyeshadow version of the lip topper shade Angel from the Huda Beauty collection itself. Once again, this is a great buy and a must for everyone who wants a versatile, yet subtle eyeshadow palette.

NYX Professional Makeup- Love You So Mochi Eyeshadow Palette- Electric Pastels

This product comes in a see through plastic case. It features peachy and pastel tones, in the form of a soft mochi-like texture. The palette is available in two shades and each palette contains 10 shades. These eyeshadows come in a shimmer and matte finish, and their application is powder like. It is best applied when the base coat of the eyelid has been used with a primer.

After seeing all the hype around this product, I just had to get one for myself and see what the fuss is all about. Surprisingly enough, the hype remains mostly true to itself. The eyeshadows are quite pigmented but, you might want to use a good flat eyeshadow brush to pack the color on, using your fingers would help build the pigment as well. It’s also the kind of product that may or may not be easy to use for a novice, who is newly trying out eyeshadows with such bold colors. Much like with most NYX palettes, there is a fair bit of fall-out from this palette as well, but it’s still lesser than the others from the same brand. But, after finally getting this palette, I am not quite sure about whether I actually really like it. With the price in mind, this palette isn’t exactly worth the price. I would suggest buying it during a sale, at least that’s what I did.

NYX Professional Makeup- Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette

This palette comes in a plastic case with six velvety, sultry shades that are highly pigmented. These shades were inspired by fan faves from the lip lingerie range from NYX. All the six shades are matte and mostly nude shades, with cool and neutral tones.

Nyx is probably the only largely recurring brand in my eyeshadow collection due to all the different ranges it has and well, the occasional sales often tempt the shopaholic in me. As for this palette, I have used it a couple of times and I actually quite like it. It’s surprisingly as highly pigmented as it has been labeled, by the brand to be, but, I would suggest using a damp brush to get the most pigment out of it. The fall-out isn’t too bad and the compact size of this palette makes it very convenient to travel with, especially since it has very easy to work with kind of shades. It’s one of those mini must-haves for everyone, who enjoys a little subtle color to their daily look.

ETUDE HOUSE- Play Color Eyes- Cherry Blossom

This palette comes in a light pink case with cherry blossoms on it. It has 10 shades with 3 matte shades and 7 shimmer shades. The theme follows nude browns to pink tones to suit the cherry blossom theme of the palette. There’s also a small mirror within the palette, along with two dual-ended sponge-tipped eyeshadow applicators.

Everyone was surprised to finally see actual Korean make-up products, people were shook and wigs were snatched. I was quick to order this palette, though it did take some contemplating of its own. It’s no big news that brands often repeat shades in their palettes and, Etude House was no exception to this either. While I originally wanted to get 2-3 palettes, I realized that a lot of the colors had been repeated within palettes with the exception of a few colors here and there. That being said, Korean make is mostly subtle and so, it would be unfair to expect high pigmentation from the eyeshadows. The shades are really nice and are fairly buildable, they look nice and subtle on light skin but I can’t quite say what impact it would have on tan and dark skin. It’s a really pleasant palette and I just might invest in another from the same brand. Though, I would suggest buying this either with coupons or during a sale because 1600 is just not quite justifiable, in my opinion.

NYX Professional Make Up- Cosmic Metals Eyeshadow Palette

This palette features 6 all metallic shades ranging from gold to plum and mauve. They are meant to be highly pigmented and allow you to create versatile looks. These metallic shimmers are easy to use, especially for makeup novices.

Just look at the picture, must I even say anymore? I’m just so surprised with how the palettes from NYX have turned out to be. Considering my previous experience with their eyeshadow palette, this has been a rather refreshing and relieving experience. Much like the Lid Lingerie palette, the compact size of this palette makes it the perfect companion for the two of them to be used together on the run. The shades are easy to blend and quite versatile. Even the color pay off is remarkable, though, using a damp brush would help optimise the pigment.

MakeUp Revolution- I Heart Peach and Glow Palette

The palette is peach and white in color, and it’s made to resemble a melting bar of chocolate. Within the palette, there is a mirror and a plastic protector. This is a blush and highlight duo, and it’s also, vegan and cruelty-free.

Now, I know this isn’t an eyeshadow palette but, don’t forget, this is a palette review. Besides, just look at how adorable the packaging is! These days I’m a big fan of peachy tones and I figured a peach colored blush would be a great way to get into it. Well, to be honest, this is my first ever palette from Makeup Revolution and I was quite skeptical about whether I was making the right decision with this purchase, but I’m glad to learn that I was worrying over nothing and everything has worked out really well. It’s simply one of the cutest palettes I’ve ever seen and I just might invest in some of the order palettes in this range as well.

Maybelline New York- Lemonade Craze Eye Shadow Palette

This palette contains 12 shades, that can create any day or night look. It’s wide range of colors from subtle to bold allow you to create a number of versatile looks. The formula of the eyeshadows has been infused with a citrus scent.

I was kind of all in the middle of writing this review when I first saw this palette online on Nykaa. With the way the packaging looked, I was rather surprised that I hadn’t heard or seen it anywhere online before. After much contemplation again, I decided to try it and hoped that the product description online was legitimate and this won’t be a horrible fail. Sadly, this wasn’t a success at all. Sure, it’s one of the better palette’s I’ve seen from Maybelline and even though I’ve only used one palette from the brand during their Gigi Hadid collab, this wasn’t what I was expecting. There was no pigment and it was hardly buildable. The only thing crazy here was the price and the lies you buy along with it. I was shocked because I always thought Maybelline had better eyeshadows for a drugstore brand but this was just sad. Honestly, I expected such an outcome from NYX, not Maybelline. However, if you do have this palette, try dampening your brush to get a little more pigment. Maybe it was a bad batch but what if it’s not? I don’t recommend it or atleast don’t keep your hopes up too high.

*Note: I used a slightly damp brush to make the swatch on the right but it was very hard to blend. The swatches on the left were made visible after several attempts to build the pigment.*

My Verdict?

As you can clearly see, I’ve a problem, I’m a shopaholic, but the good thing is, my bad habit can save you from a bad buy. Now, I was mostly skeptical throughout, while trying out each of the eyeshadows. With even the blush not being an exception to my doubts. Surprisingly, most of the palettes in this review were really nice and I highly recommend those. The NYX Mochi Eyeshadow Palette and the Maybelline Lemonade Craze feel unnecessary to me, with the later being a bit of a flop for me. This review has enough palettes to encourage novice make up enthusiasts and even pro makeup artists. The one palette I would highly recommend is the Lid Lingerie and Cosmic Metals eyeshadow palette from NYX, as I mentioned in the review, they’re super compact and easy to travel with, and they’re easy to work with colors. You could easily level up your look at the drop of a hat!

This review is definitely the not the last of its kind and there are many more such exclusive review editions that will be coming up in the future.
